Winter’s return: 3-day storm boosts snowpack, more snow in forecast
 
After weeks of the occasional mild snowfall measured in inches, the basin has been buried in multiple feet of snow, and there is more in the forecast for next week. The National Weather Service in Reno issued a rare Blizzard Warning that went into effect on Tuesday, Jan. 26, and ended this morning at 4 a.m.
Before the multi-day storm hit the basin, the Tahoe snowpack was at about 53% of average, but officials say this storm could boost that number by over 20%. “It’s going to help a lot, it won’t put us over a normal amount but it will get us closer,” said Jeff Anderson, a hydrologist with the Nevada Resources Conservation Service who performs the snow surveys during the season. “As of midnight Thursday morning we are at 68%…. Read here.

Thanks to the atmospheric river that hit Tahoe, we’ve already received over 40 inches of snow and in some places, over 50. Atmospheric rivers are narrow corridors of concentrated moisture in the atmosphere caused by the meeting of warm and cold fronts. These storms can dump multiple feet of snow at a time. The Tahoe Basin remains under a blizzard warning until Friday morning at 4:00am.

The absorption rate is finally a bit higher than months past as the median home price has been climbing and days on market increasing accordingly. Our active, pending and sold sales are holding steady with a slight increase in pending sales. There is anticipation of increases in inventory as sellers start planning to make moves now that vaccines are finally coming into the health markets and to the people who so dearly need them. Additionally, many vacation rental properties will be cycling out of their VHR permits as Measure T impacts are coming into play here in the So Lake Tahoe city jurisdictions. We will be keeping an eye on this activity and sharing market conditions as it evolves.
