The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, the tourism agency representing California and Nevada on the South Shore, is reminding visitors that nonessential travel is still prohibited for the holiday weekend by governmental and health organizations. California’s stay at home order is still in place and the Lake Tahoe Basin area of El Dorado County has implemented a travel ban by order of the El Dorado County public health officer. The City is excited about Memorial Day weekend but realizes this one will be different than years past. Property owners are now allowed to come to Tahoe, but visitors are still asked not to be here at this time.

South Lake Tahoe Real Estate Market Stats
With a 6.6 monthly absorption rate, we are sitting between a buyer’s market and a seller’s market, or in other words a balanced opportunity market. Given the current state of the Covid world and while access to Tahoe for many is virtual, somewhat counter- intuitively, we are still enjoying an active real-estate market where solid values can be obtained by the buying and selling markets. Real estate listing Inventory is maintaining a slow but solid number of new listings coming to market while other inventory leaves the market in the form of sales (see absorption rate above) or expired listings. What we look for in these leading indicators is direction of the RE market for purposes of anticipating pricing and sales expectation. What we see currently is consistency (as opposed to volatility, such as the liquid equity investments markets). After a delay due to COVID-19, select Tahoe boat ramps and marinas are starting to open exclusively to boats with an intact Lake Tahoe inspection seal. No uninspected vessels from outside the Tahoe Region will be able to get on the water until travel restrictions and shelter-in-place orders to help slow the spread of the coronavirus are further relaxed. Watercraft inspection stations for the detection and prevention of aquatic invasive species will remain closed to boaters until further notice.
