Usually the final weekend of the summer, and a big one at that, this Labor Day in Lake Tahoe is a unique one like everything else in 2020. As we move into the final holiday weekend before heading into Fall, we need to be careful to stay safe, healthy and playing it safe by paying attention the fire restrictions and rules set forth by county officials. 

“County officials are asking residents and visitors to continue to follow the state’s mandates for face coverings, avoid large gatherings, remain at least six feet from others outside your household and wash your hands. “The best and easiest way to help ensure we move to the orange tier in the week of Sept. 21 is for residents and visitors to continue to follow the state’s mandates,” Williams said.” Finish reading the article about moving to the next phase here.

Lake Tahoe has always been a place to escape from the oppressive heat surrounding the mountains. When places like Reno and Sacramento are hitting high 90’s or even triple digits, the Tahoe Basin is in the upper 70s or low 80s. Combine that with the cool waters of Lake Tahoe and you have the perfect recipe for summer fun. For this year, the entire community including the City of South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Barton Health, and the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority ask you to #respectTahoe by wearing a mask.  South Lake Tahoe Real Estate Market Stats

The absorption rate is .7, so a little over half a months worth of inventory. This is still a very strong seller’s market, however, the good news for buyers is that we’re getting more inventory daily! The bottom line is that the market is driving home prices upwards to 10% increase year over year and most of that has happened in the past 4 months. This phenomenon has been growing month over month as the pandemic (primarily) has launched a new appreciation, dare I say panic reaction, to being “boxed in” living in urban areas. This in a time when breathing fresh air and the space that it creates it, is a highly coveted commodity. A commodity whose time has come apparently.  A word of forethought; Please don’t love this great national treasure to death., be the good stewards that take care of it which we all desire and treasure.
