Information received since the Federal Open Market Committee met in February indicates that the labor market has continued to strengthen and that economic activity has continued to expand at a moderate pace. Job gains remained solid and the unemployment rate was little changed in recent months. Household spending has continued to rise moderately while business fixed investment appears to have firmed somewhat. Inflation has increased in recent quarters, moving close to the Committee’s 2 percent longer-run objective; excluding energy and food prices, inflation was little changed and continued to run somewhat below 2 percent. Market-based measures of inflation compensation remain low; survey-based measures of longer-term inflation expectations are little changed, on balance. Finish reading here.

March 14, 2017 (South Lake Tahoe, CA/NV) – Tahoe Chamber has joined with more than two dozen chambers and local governments in the western United States in signing a letter urging the federal government to ensure full funding for an economic study to calculate the impact of the outdoor recreation economy on the overall U.S. economy. The study was directed in last year’s bi-partisan passage of the Outdoor Recreation Jobs and Economic Impact Act. However, the Act did not provide full funding for the study, slated to be conducted by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. According to the Outdoor Industry Association, outdoor recreation contributes an estimated $646 billion to the overall U.S. economy, with 6.1 million direct American jobs. To date, such information has never been formally measured by the federal government nor included as part of national economic data.Finish reading here.
