Last week’s mortgage application news underwhelmed in the immediate aftermath of Brexit, with applications posting a drop for the week. It seemed like Brexit did nothing to spur people into homeownership, that’s until this week’s news came out. Mortgage applications surged 14.2% from one week earlier, significantly driven by refinance activity, according to data from the Mortgage Bankers Association’s Weekly Mortgage Applications Survey for the week ending July 1. The Refinance Index soared 21% from the previous week to the highest level since January 2015, while the Purchase Index only increased 4% from one week earlier. Two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Steph Curry will join superstar athletes and entertainers at the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe later this month. Well known as an accomplished golfer, Curry finished fourth in the 2013 event and was immediately installed as one of the favorites to win, listed at 5-1 by the Harrah’s and Harveys Race & Sports Book. Curry’s father, Dell, who enjoyed a 16-year NBA career, is also in the field as is Curry’s Golden State Warriors teammate Andre Iguodala. The tournament is Friday-Sunday, July 22-24, at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course with eight hours of live coverage set for NBCSN on Friday and NBC Sports Saturday and Sunday. South Tahoe National Little League is raising funds to send our Nevada State championship team, to the Western Regional Baseball ChampionshipsJuly 18-28, in Nogales, Arizona. This is a group of 12-13 year olds who won the right to represent Nevada by defeating Summerlin North Little League, Las Vegas, in a best of three, state championship, played here in South Lake Tahoe. We will be competing against 9 other state champions from the western United States. This is the very first STATE championship for South Tahoe National Little League from any division.
