South Lake Tahoe may have pristine waters and sandy beaches, but this is not just a little mountain beach town. The perk to owning South Lake Tahoe real estate is that you get to enjoy outdoor activities all year around thanks to about 12 ski resorts in and around the basin. On the South Shore, locals enjoy Sierra at Tahoe, Kirkwood and Heavenly Ski Resort. Heavenly allows you to ski or snowboard on 5,000 acres on both the Nevada side and California side with lodges in both states and a gondola at the Heavenly Village. All 3 resorts feature bars, restaurants, shops, special events and entertainment throughout the winter season.
Other snowy activities include cross country skiing and snow shoeing on trails all over the South Shore, ice skating, sledding and snowmobiling. Snowmobiling is such a great way to enjoy the trails and see the lake from a completely different view point.
