Happy Friday!
Things are heating up around the District as we prepare
for the new school year. This morning our administrators,
board members, and some of us assistants from the Ed. Center
had the pleasure of welcoming thirteen new teachers and
a new assistant principals for STMS to the District. What
a change from recent years when we were laying off teachers
every year! Everyone is enthusiastic and ready to get going!
Next week, staff members will be attending professional
development classes and getting their classroom ready for
the start of school on September 4th.
The Board will hold their next regular meeting next Tuesday,
August 28th, at 6pm here at the Ed. Center. They are looking
forward to accepting checks from two very fine organizations
– Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation and STAT. Dr.
Tarwater will also give an update on the plans for the Ribbon
Cutting Ceremony on September 20th for the new Community
Youth Sports Complex.
You are probably aware that there are three Board of Education
seats up for election in November and the deadline for filing
applications passed last week. The following people are
now officially running for school board: Barbara Bannar
(incumbent), Sue Novasel (incumbent), Lauri Kemper (an engineer
with Lahontan Water Quality Control Board/parent), Larry
Green (a math instructor with Lake Tahoe Community College/parent),
Dr. Michael Doyle (a local pediatrician/parent), and Jill
Sanders (a realtor and parent).
We all know how wonderful this town is when it comes to
supporting our youth and families and the outpouring of
donations for those who recently lost or sustained damage
to their homes is another example of the great spirit that
exists among us. If you want information on how to help
– check out the ANGORA FIRE FUND web site. On the
flip side, there appears to be another invasion from a publishing
company from Illinois selling advertising on an 11 x 17
poster purporting to support the “Vikings”.
Just Say No! This is not endorsed by STHS, nor does any
local group receive any benefit whatsoever from this venture.
If you have a Freshman starting High School this year –
like I do – you’re invited to join the STHS
staff for our Freshmen Welcome Festivities on Thursday,
August 30th at 10:30am at the STHS Football Field. They
will be having skits and tours, followed by a BBQ lunch.
I’ll give you more information next Wednesday the
start of school.
Until then………………..Au
Revoir and have a brilliant weekend! Maybe I’ll see
you at the Air Show out at the Airport tomorrow!!
Angie
