  • A California voter measure that expands the portability of a property tax break for homeowners age 55 and up could help ease the state’s housing shortage.
  • Supporters say passage of the measure could encourage older homeowners with larger homes to downsize and move to other counties, freeing homes foryounger families.
  • The real estate industry has put its weight behind the proposed ballot initiative and is prepared to spend upwards of $50 million to get it passed.
  • Monday is the deadline for proponents to turn in signatures to qualify the proposed initiative for the November election ballot.
